What's In My Camera Bag?
Cary Family and Newborn Photographer | SMA Photography
With the holiday season (and Black Friday) approaching, I thought I’d share some of my favorite items in my camera bag, including my camera body, lenses, and some fun add ons. Specializing in family and newborn photography, my photography gear is, well, geared toward those genres. Whether you’re a professional family or newborn photographer, a hobbyist, or someone who would like to get into photography, this post will give you some great ideas for your own wish list.

The Basics
(I can’t say enough wonderful things about this DSLR camera with both photo and video capability. It’s been my baby for 5+ years, and I have intention of switching anytime soon.)
(This is the brand of memory cards I use.)
(This is the perfect starter lens. Rather than a “kit lens” (zoom lens without wide aperture options), I always recommend starting with a prime lens, like the 50mm for full frame cameras.)
(I absolutely love this camera bag. It’s not super cute, but it’s so convenient and comfortable and does a great job carrying my camera and lenses safely.)
(My actual tripod is no longer being made, but this is the one on my wish list. Tripods are so helpful for self-portraiture and can be great for video stabilization.)
Getting into the Lenses
(This is the one I use for the majority of my in-home photo sessions.)
(This is the one I use for the majority of my video sessions and a lot of my family photo shoots.)
(This is the one I use for the majority of my outdoor lifestyle photo sessions.)
(This is a semi-telephoto lens that I plan to start using in more of my outdoor family photo shoots. It would also be great for nature.)
Fun Stuff to Add On
(This is what I use to protect my DSLR camera during underwater photo shoots with my boys in the pool.)
(My kids love to use this to add to our vacation and pool videos.)
(We love this floating handgrip. It’s saved us and our GoPro multiple times!)
(This lens is such a fun way to play with freelensing and blur effects.)
I hope this gives you lots of ideas for your own photography wish list this holiday season! And once your new gear comes in, be sure to sign up for a one-on-one photography workshop with me to focus on specific goals (like learning how to shoot in manual mode!) and create more magic in the photos you take. I’d love to share everything I’ve learned with you.
